New Year , New Bag! Huge New Project Bag for Larger Projects
This bag has so much going for it. It is a super easy beginner friendly sew. It takes less than an hour to make it.
It is large ! Huge. This bag measures 21" long, 12" high, and 10" wide. It can hold 4 Big Twist Value Pounds easily and more.
I used a beatiful Rainbow Heart Sherpa Fabric from Joann's. It was a little costly at $13.99 a yard.
The fabric measures 58" wide. Due to this being a directual fabric, I folded and cut the fabric approx. 24 inches by the length of the fabric.
The sherpa fabric is a bit hard to work with.
It Stretches.
The foot of your sewing machine will eat and tangle it.
It is a sneeze fabric. There are tiny fluffies everywhere while cutting and sewing.
It is bulky.
I found that when sewing it, it was best to do Large 1 inch seam allowance. This keeps the raw fluffy edges away from foot. Some may find that wasteful, I found it fast and easy to control. You do lose 2 inches in the side seams which brings you down to approx. 22" but it is well worth it.
For the enterior of the bag I used Cotton Canvas. I do not need a waterproof or heavier canvas for the purpose I plan to use this bag for. A solid red cotton canvas from Joann at $4.99 a yard will work great.
Again I cut my cotton canvas 25 inches wide. I made two canvas pockets for the interior on either side.
I interfaced the interior of the bag, not the exterior. I used SF 101 from Joann. I try to get it on sale for around $2 a yard. This bag took approx, 4 yards. The interfacing is only 20 inches wide, therefore more yardage.
I did leave a 3 inch side opening in the lining to turn the bag once all was sewn. I placed a shop label in the opening and it looks greats.
Putting it all together was super easy and quick. It took a little more than an hour for the first bag, and even less for the second.
The end result is wonderful ! I now have a HUGE bag for my Large crochet and Knitting patterns. I can also use it to hold multiple crosss stich folders.
I did not use any pattern for this bag. I litteraly cut the fabric and went to sewing.
I did purchase three other sherpa fabrics to make bags with. I simply love the softness of them. I do plan on making those different sizes. All for different purposes and projects.
Thanks so much for reading. . .
